Orbs debuts in Seoul
On the 24th of July, the team behind the popular Chat GPT tool launched a new project called "World Coin".
World Coin is a system of digital identity and blockchain that uses a very unique way of verify users: users need to visit a physical location where a device called Orb will do the job.
Just after 24 hours from the launch of World Coin, our team found 3 locations in Seoul with Orbs. We chose to visit Euljiro since is closer to our location.
The place is called "Hide me Please" and it is on a narrow road next to Cheonggyecheon Stream (청계천).

Despite the building looks really old, the shop is very cool and modern. The owner is very into NFT and blockchain so at the center of the shop there is an AI image display showing very cool generated pictures.

We ordered couple of drinks before talking to the Worldcoin team who kindly explain how to verify with our mobile app and the Orb.

The process is just simple and last few seconds. The Orb which is a heavy big robotic eye - not that scary - needs to scan your QR code on the app Worldcoin installed on your phone and after that it will scan your eye. You only need to look at the Orb for few seconds.
Why digital identity matters?
In today's fast-paced digital world, having a digital identity is like your online passport. It's your unique representation in cyberspace – who you are, what you like, and how you interact. But now, with blockchain technology in the game, digital identity has become even cooler and more important.
First off, let's talk about security and privacy. With blockchain, you've got an extra layer of protection. Instead of sharing your sensitive data everywhere, you can use cryptographic keys to control who sees what. No more worrying about data breaches or someone stealing your identity.
And get this – with blockchain, you're the boss of your digital identity. They call it "self-sovereign identity." You decide what info to share and with whom. No more giving away your details to big companies or governments. It's all about you having the power.
Blockchain is like an open book, but in a good way. Everything's recorded on an unchangeable ledger, so you know you can trust what's going on. Your digital identity is tied to these records, adding an extra dose of trust and accountability to the mix.
But wait, there's more! Blockchain doesn't care about borders. So, if you don't have official documents in your country, no problem. You can have a global identity that works anywhere and everywhere. It's like being a citizen of the world!
All that annoying stuff like KYC and AML checks in the finance world? Blockchain can make that easier too. It speeds up the verification process, making life simpler for both businesses and customers.
Digital identity on the blockchain is reshaping the way we do things online. It's all about giving you more control, boosting security, and building trust. But, you know, it's not all rainbows and unicorns. We still need to tackle some challenges, like making sure everyone has access to this technology, stopping identity fraud, and figuring out the right balance between privacy and rules. But hey, we're getting there! Embrace your digital identity, and let's see where this blockchain journey takes us!
Worldcoin Grants
The best part to verify is that Worldcoin gives grants to verified users, 25 WLD (Worldcoins) and every week 1 WLD.
There are already over 2 millions users verified on the Worldcoin app.
Concern
On Twitter especially many users have expressed concern about privacy about the need to verify with Worldcoin. However more experienced users explained that the system uses ZK snarks to encrypt all data before uploading on the Ethereum blockchain.
